But how do you know the Instructor you have chosen is a competent instructor?

Well you could ask about their Success Rate? or better still you could ask around and see who your friends had lessons with, and how they would rate the Instructor. Look at Testimonials of previous students.

Another way is to see how long they've been in business in the area, bad Instructors don't usually stay in business under the same name to long. So you could look at that?
